Lee Matthews is a kind and compassionate visionary and powerhouse of a teacher – my daughter was at rock bottom confidence-wise around the time of her GCSEs in 2023 and Lee was beyond generous with her ideas, wisdom and expertise at unlocking my daughter’s creative voice. We will be forever thankful as my daughter now decides which university to continue her creative studies. So a very big thank you and whatever Lee is involved in, expect miracles! – Sarah O.
Lee taught my daughter in 2014 and 2015 when she was four & five years old – in an afterschool painting class and she absolutely loved it! Lee’s teaching is very relaxed and welcoming. Making the kids feel free to make mess and explore and most importantly – not be afraid to try things out! I highly recommend. – Noa W.
Lee is an incredible person and a true professional. Painting together under her guidance was a wonderful, joyful experience we’ll always remember. – Anna B.
In 2025, Lee changed my daughter’s trajectory in Art GCSE. However, more importantly she helped her rediscover her love and confidence in Art. My daughter was projected to receive a U grade and had given up because her teacher constantly put her down. Reluctantly, she went to Lee for art lessons and by the end she would ask to see Lee. My daughter went from giving up Art to taking it A level with plans to apply to study Art at University. Lee’s an exceptional teacher and her ability to get the best out of her students is a rare talent. Lee is an Art whisperer. – Tara Z.
My daughter went to Lee’s group art classes between the ages of 6 and 7 and they were a wonderful experience for her. Lee encouraged imagination, freedom and creativity while creating a calm, supportive environment where my daughter felt safe, relaxed and excited to make art.
Thank you for that! -Netta I.
I started learning with Lee in 2022, drawings and painting. She was great – patient and constructive. It was a real pleasure to learn with her and the group that was formed around her. – Dan L.
I joined Lee’s art class at Kilburn Studios in mid -2022 and was a student of hers for over two years. At that time, I was returning to painting after many years, prompted by a sudden health issue. Lee taught me how to use oil paints from scratch, how to find and use colour, how to cover a canvas in paint and how to question the artistic choices I made. With Lee, I explored large and small compositions from both photographs and still life, and both my painting and my drawing skills improved significantly.
Lee is a wonderful teacher, full of insight and encouragement. Our classes were stimulating, fun and memorable. During that time, I produced many paintings and drawings which developed my existing skills and stretched them into new territory, and I have yet to study with another teacher who brings so much energy, warmth and knowledge to the discipline of teaching art.
I highly recommend Lee as a teacher of art to students of any age, and I very much look forward to the opportunity to study with her again.

My girls started attending Lee’s art classes in 2011 when they were four and two and continued for eight years. In advance of each class Lee would carefully prepare the materials and then encourage the girls to explore and experiment freely. It was huge fun and they loved it. Lee has a natural gift for connecting with children. Her gentle, positive approach instilled in my daughters the confidence to try different media without worrying about the end result. One of my daughters is now planning to continue her art studies to A level and beyond which is testament to the strong creative foundation Lee provided in her classes. – Lucy A.
Lee taught my son, Max, in 2010 / 2011 (I think?!) and it’s was absolutely his most favourite class (and mine to date). Art wasn’t necessarily a favourite activity of his at the time but quickly became a real joy to watch him develop under Lee’s guidance and become a real passion of his. The classes were so relaxed and a real highlight of both our weeks. Max gained confidence in lots of new skills in art – different techniques & mediums. I would love to go back to the classes now with him as a 3 or 4 year old 🥰. – Gerry F.
